PRE-K PROGRAM
The Hallandale House of Learning Preschool Program (for ages 3 to 6) lets a child learn through hands-on activities, to care for the environment, plants, animals and each other, with respect and reverence. Our curriculum is as follows:
Practical Life
These activities promote independence, eye-hand coordination and fine/gross motor skills. They also develop the child's concentration and dexterity. Among other things, the children have an opportunity to care for their environment and themselves.
Sensorial Activities
These attractive materials are designed to stimulate each of the child’s senses and to develop the ability to make fine discrimination.
Language and Literacy Activities
Early language experience is attained by encouraging children to talk about their daily experiences, listen to stories, read books and through participation in songs and rhymes. Every child is taught the phonetic sounds and shapes of letters. The child then progresses to “build” words using specially designed Montessori materials, which lead on to writing and reading.
Mathematical Activities
The Montessori Method ensures children enjoy activities such as matching, grading and pairing. When the child's interest in numbers has been developed through sensorial activities and sandpaper numbers he or she is introduced to more complex math activities. These include recognizing and writing numbers, sequencing, quantifying, addition and subtraction.
Circle Time and Story Telling
These activities enhance the child's listening skills by actively listening to stories, songs and poems and encourage children to broaden their imagination. Furthermore, it develops memory skills, lengthens attention span, social skills, cognitive development and sensory experiences. This in turn leads children to self-expression, gross motor development, role-playing, body awareness and language development.
Reading Corner
The Reading Corner is a quiet area for children to relax, enjoy and explore different books. This intimate area provides an early experience with books and stimulates the child's desire to learn to read. Activities around books can be done in large or small groups. This enhances development of the child's attention span, while learning simple concepts and exercising their imagination.
Art and Craft Activities
Children are free to express themselves through painting, drawing, cutting and pasting.
